These Are the Design Trends People Are Buying in 2023 So Far

When it comes tointerior designanddecortrends,minimalismhas dominated for a long time. But in 2023, search data indicates a return to big, bold, andmaximalist.

Though only a few weeks into the new year, the shopping and payment pros atKlarnahave pulled data to take a peek into what home decor trends are popping, especially given that the start of a year often inspires people to shake things up in their spaces. Turns out a fresh start for many includes a return to colorful prints and patterns, which might infer that pared-down neutrals are becoming a thing of the past.

Among the two top trending search items, per data from Klarna:jewel tonesandpatterned wallpaper, with a92 percentincrease in purchases ofpeel and stick wallpaperin particular.

It seems like color will be everywhere in the coming months, with a104%increase in searches for bothpink curtainsandgreen curtains, respectively. Searches forpurple rugshave spiked96 percentin the first two weeks of 2023, and year over year, purchases ofgreen rugshave increased by66 percentwhileorange rugsincreased by33 percent.

Per the data, purchases ofblack side tableshave increased by34 percentandgold mirrorshave increased by31 percentin the first two weeks of the year. Since December, purchases of几何地毯have increased by153 percentas well, proving that bold decor statements are the best way to spruce things up without making a major commitment.

That said, people are interested in more permanent decor changes, too. While purchases of sleek, minimalistwhite tileshave increased by263 percent, searches for boldblue tileshave increased by53 percentin the last two weeks. Year over year,black tileshave increased by a whopping388 percent, so it seems like unexpected flooring choices will reign supreme this year. If you’ve never considered an orange rug or blue tiles on the floor, perhaps now’s your chance to try something totally out of left field.
