Name:Sharon and Dan and pup Ruby
Location:Long Island City – Queens, New York
Size:1,020 square feet
Years lived in:7 months, owned

We’ve been living in our condo for about seven months! We moved here from Manhattan because we wanted more space to grow a family (we’re expecting a baby girl at the end of August!). Our condo is just over 1,000 square feet with two bedrooms, two baths, dine-in kitchen, dining room, and in-unit washer/dryer. Although we initially missed the hustle-and-bustle of Manhattan, we love our new home! I currently live here with my husband of almost three years and our four-year old Shiba Inu, Ruby. We put a ton of love and work into making our home functional, cozy, and a place where people can gather and make memories!

什么是你最喜欢的room and why?Definitely the living room! It’s where our family and friends, from near and far, gather to share stories and laughs, get in a friendly competition over Settlers of Catan, and eat great takeout while binge-watching TV shows! We love how everything came together and fits to create a warm and welcoming space—it’s definitely the heart of our home.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home?Floating wall shelf from CB2! We really wanted a place to display some of our favorite photos from our wedding. We put the shelf above our TV and media console, and it almost felt like the pictures brought the space to life! We love displaying photos of our friends and family in our place as a constant reminder that it’s the people in our lives that make it memorable and what makes it home.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be?Definitely a range hood in the kitchen so we can actually cook! I have a suspicion that most homes in NYC don’t have one because most folks go out to eat (NYC makes it easy with all of the options!), but it’d be great to have one so we can cook up some steaks without stinking up our entire apartment.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less:Mid-century modern

Any advice for creating a home you love?Take your time to decorate and think about how you want your home to make you and your guests FEEL. Create spaces for conversation, bring in warm colors or accents, show some personality, and have fun! I see tons of beautiful homes that are on-trend and display expensive furniture and decor, but they they feel sterile. A home should be a place that is welcoming and shares your story!
