While other midcentury designers were molding chairs from new materials like steel and plastic, Hans Wegner stuck with a classic — wood. He created many designs in wood, all with modern shapes and a certain timeless appeal. But none have quite the popularity and staying power of the design we now know as the Wishbone Chair.Though the Wishbone now comes in a host of totally covetable colors, I’m still partial to the natural wood ones and the way they get even more beautiful with age.

Q: My wife and I are looking for a sofa for the living room in our contemporary/mid-century modern house. We love the Hess sofa from Room and Board in the trip linen fabric. But…We are concerned that there might be trouble with a 2.5 year old toddler and stains, given that the fabric is light-colored and primarily cotton-based. We’ve thought about having the same sofa in darker colors or in a different type of fabric (such as Terri Charcoal, Deirdre Slate, or Dustin Pewter).

Q: My husband and I have IKEA mattresses in both of the two bedrooms in our apartment. They are super comfortable to sleep on, but they are also only about 8 inches thick, which makes it nearly impossible to find a nice quality, good thread count, set of sheets to fit them!The smallest fitted sheets I can find on the regular market “fit up to 15 inches”, and even the “nice” sheets at IKEA “fit up to 11 3/4 inches.
