Have you been thinking about refreshing your lighting? Designers are always referring to chandeliers and pendants as the jewelry in any space, and they are right. Fresh fixtures are the perfect way to ramp up ( and vamp up!) any room. We’ve taken the liberty of pulling together some really great looks for a variety of tastes. From classical crystal chandeliers to blown-glass pendants, traditional fixtures offer a touch of glam without being too overt.

Minimalism has been trending lately, but it’s hardly anything new. Case in point: Sara Berman’s closet, currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has been recreated at the museum by her daughter and grandson.

I’ve heard it said that it’s helpful to live in your home before renovating, to get a feel for how you actually use the space and what you really want from the renovation. Well, this Upper East Side homeowner lived in his apartment for 40 years. So he had a pretty good idea. While we’ll never know the exact number of marriages that ended over fights about dirty dishes left in the sink, it’s safe to assume it’s not zero. Some of the more enlightened among us claim to love doing dishes, but for many people it’s a chore that’s avoided as much as possible. If you have the space and ability to modify your kitchen, nothing can save you from time hunched over a sink full of dirty dishes like a dishwasher (except takeout).
