Kim, a lifestyle blogger who loves spending time in her kitchen trying out recipes with her two young daughters, always wanted to redo this space to be more open, bright and inspiring. Without a huge budget, the family decided to tackle the project themselves — a scary thought for folks who had never tried anything like it before!

Adding light-colored Caeserstone countertops, white subway tiles, IKEA shelving and more, these homeowners tackled a huge kitchen redo beautifully, brightening up the space.

From Kim:

Over the course of 3 1/2 months, we removed all of the upper cabinets, countertop, backsplash, soffits and desk area. Oh, and removed part of the back wall! Once we learned it wasn’t load bearing, we chose to remove the upper half and not the entire wall. It opened up the space to our dining room, but we decided not to move the stove and deal with all the construction issues that would bring up. Then we painted all of the base cabinets, installed new sheetrock, backer board for tiling, tiled and installed shelving. We also installed a new range hood that required some tricky duct work maneuvering to fit within the current ceiling space. We did all of the work ourselves with exception to electric, which is always best left to an expert!

Thank you Kim!
