Being a a big fan of interior design, I find myself in constant decorating mode. I really enjoy bringing to life an idea or creative project and recently found myself doing it with our small living room.
After painting the walls and rearranging the furniture, I noticed my small living space could fit a coffee table and would be more inviting. So I went on the internet hunt for the perfect table that wouldn’t over crowd the space or break the bank.
Ikea, of course! I really like the VITTSJÖ Coffee table’s design and price, $49.99.
I love Ikea and their products. However I hate being just another mass consumer with the same lamp shade as 3 million other people out there. I mean, I’m totally unique! Right? Okay not really, but here’s how I tricked myself into feeling like I am.
Before assembling the table, I sanded it down with a rough grit sandpaper sponge ($8.00). After it was sanded I painted it with Glidden’s “Early Frost” (light mint green) matte finish, $21.00. I used a regular painters brush and applied 2 coats.
I thought about using spray paint. It definitely would have saved a lot of time but I wanted it to be a thick layer of paint so that any scuff or scratch wouldn’t reveal the underlying surface. The painting was about a half a day’s work.
I’m very happy with how it turned out and learned an important lesson on how paint can be my best friend when spicing things up and making it my own.
