A Look Inside Waiting on Martha’s Glamorous Office

Desk.The word can incite passion, great ideas and inspiration or evoke a slight nausea at the thought of logging one more hour in that dreaded, dimly lit space. While some may be the former, I myself am the latter, working amidst an uninspiring collection of junk mail, laundry, discarded receipts and so many Post-It notes that I can’t recall which ones I’ve completed and which I haven’t. It got me thinking:Shouldn’t your desk be the yin to your productive yang?

Longing for a space that strikes that perfect balance of functional and beautiful design, I rounded up four of today’s notable bloggers and creatives to ask them to share their tips, tricks and inspirations behind theirenviablecharming workspaces and creative hubs in hopes that perhaps through osmosis, I too could have a drool-worthy desk.First up is Atlanta’s Mandy Kellogg Rye of Waiting on Martha.

What started out as a passion project has transpired today into an eponymous name in the blogging world, Waiting on Martha; a blog, online shop, and design and consulting company with Mandy Kellogg Rye at helm of the online enterprise. Her motto? To ‘create a beautiful day, everyday.’ From the looks of her inspired office, we can’t imagine that’d be a difficult task.

面对平淡的黑白办公室,曼迪decided to do an extreme overhaul. “I wanted it to be light, airy and a bit on the feminine side,” she says, “but also not boring;neverboring.”

White and clear minimalistic furniture allow texture and pattern to become the stars of the space, which Mandy decided to make as the top priority when scheming out the design. “I’m a big believer in mixing patterns and textures, and my office definitely reflects the overall style of my home. When mixing prints, I usually start with a hero pattern and work from there,” she says. Going off of that idea, the standout feature of this space is the black and creamTanzaniawallpaper from Thibaut that became a “neutral” backdrop for custom satin and velvet drapes, a textural sisal rug, and warm wooden console and shelving that easily hide unsightly, yet functional, necessities.

Not wanting to deter from the streamlined feel of the space, Mandy choose a simple, yet large desk to house a small assortment of necessities: her computer, a baby bluebrushstroke lamp, and pencil cup. Keeping her desktop clutter-free, she says, allows her to focus on future ventures: capsule collections, brick-and-mortar shops and possibly a book. She stores paperwork in a rolling file cabinet for easy access next to an OomphTinitable that houses business cards, a stapler, and tape dispenser.

“I saved on items that were only there to serve their purpose and those I knew I would outgrow design-wise. My ghost chairs aren’t the original ghost chairs and the console and file cabinets are all fromIKEA.” An off-kilter shelving system neatly displays asterling piggy bank, pretty ginger jars, chic monochromatic art, and a plethora of design books. “I’m a visual person so my space features open shelving with my most used styling props. That way when I am styling a project, I can scan the shelves quickly to snag what I need, ” says Mandy,并补充道,“拥有一个商店的最大的好处之一is that you get to pull from your own inventory.
