As we inch closer and closer to 2019, the 2019 Color of the Year predictions have started steadily rolling in. The latest contender?Garden Patch, a grassy green fromDutch Boy Paints. While announcing the shade as their choice for Color of the Year, Dutch Boy described the hue as “not too deep and not too primary.”

The color, shown above, is inspired by nature—as if you couldn’t tell by the name—and is reminiscent ofPantone’s Color of the Year from 2017: Greenery, just with a softer, less yellowy tone.

Along with sharing their official 2019 COTY, Dutch Boy also unveiled three color palettes—featuring 8 shades each—that they believe will embody the year.

But the brand didn’t land on the shades solely based on their aesthetic appeal, Dutch Boy believes the colors all invoke a sense of optimism.

“All of our colors for 2019 have a happier tone and reflect an upswing in how people are feeling. Even colors that are traditionally on the cooler side of the palette have a level of warmth and happiness than what we’ve seen in the recent past,” said Rachel Skafidas, color and design manager, Dutch Boy Paints. “Even though people may see challenges in their lives, they’re thinking positively and expressing more empathy.”

The first palette, Studio is a bold collection of colors that’s chock full of primary hues punctuated by a graphic gray and crisp white.

The second palette is called Sanctuary, and includes calming shades inspired by the design world’sembracing of mindfulnessand spirituality at home. A range of blues and greens are highlighted in this palette, as well as a muted peach and soft lilac.

Rounding out the palettes is Homestead, which was inspired by living simply and embracing natural beauty as well as other cultures’ craftsmanship. The shades included range from soft neutrals to warmer red tones. And of course, Garden Patch makes an appearance as well.

补丁本身可作为一个以上室内花园or and exterior color, and Skafidas believes it could work in a variety of different homes.

“When the Dutch Boy color team selects a color, we want it to be something the homeowner can use to transform just about any space,” she said.

It’s also not the first green to be announced as a 2019 COTY, earlier this summerPPG Paints named “Night Watch,”a rich, deep teal, their Color of the Year. That shade has notes of blue as well, which calls to mindBehr’s choice: Blueprint. So will blues and greens continue to dominate the COTY announcements? Only time will tell.
