We first saw Anna Tovar’s design skills when she shared herson Axel’s nurserywith us. Now, we’re delighted to see what she’s put together for her new daughter, Eden. The design made the very most of a tight budget with thrifted and repurposed pieces and a keen eye for detail.

All of the furniture in Eden’s room was reused from Axel’s nursery, and the family already had both of the rugs and the lamp on the dresser. Anna made much of the art herself, and the rest she collected over time when she saw something she liked. She combined sophisticated creams, grays, and tans with more colorful teal and hot pink to create a youthful but not childish scheme. Painting the top third of the teal walls white made the color pop and added brightness to the room.

How would you describe the look and feel of this room?
I just feel like Eden’s room is sweet. It’s feminine without being too girly, and I like the balance of the bright teal and pink paired with the grays, tans, and creams. It leaves the room feeling youthful but not too kidd-ish.

What is your favorite piece or element?
I would have to say the wall treatment is my favorite element of the room. It was such an easy thing to do and really made a big impact on the room. Plus, painting the top third white really balanced out the brightness of the teal below it.

What was the biggest challenge decorating this room?
My sister-in-law lived in this room until 2 weeks after Eden was born, so the most challenging part of decorating Eden’s room is that I couldn’t decorate Eden’s room! It ended up being a blessing because I was able to really pull all the ideas and products I liked together and had a solid plan for how I was going to decorate once I was able to. I’m usually a buy-now-figure-it-out-later type of girl when it comes to decorating, so it was nice to be forced to plan it all out before doing anything.

What do your friends say about the room?
满是震惊时(在一个好方法)saw it because I put it together so quickly. My mom came a couple of weeks after Eden was born to help take care of her so that I could put everything together (she knew I was really excited to get it done). Since I had everything planned out and ready to go, it was just a matter of painting and then putting it all in the room.

We love your himmeli mobile. How did you choose that motif and how did you make it?
I made the mobile with black coffee straws and thread! I had seen several before and loved the look of them. I just googled “Himmeli Mobile DIY” and was able to find several tutorials that helped me get started, and then I went from there!

Do you have any suggestions for the less creatively inclined if they want to make their own art?
I think keeping it simple is the way to go when making your own art. One DIY idea for big-impact wall art that I had was to buy a large piece of birch plywood (24×24 or 36×36) and simply paint an oversized hot pink heart in the center of it. I ended up having enough large art for the room, so I decided to do the smaller watercolor heart instead, but I still think it would be so cute!

What advice do you have for someone designing a nursery on a tight budget?
When I found an item that was out of my price range, I would make every effort to find something similar that I could afford. Often times, it would lead to me finding really great pieces that I loved just as much, and sometimes it would force me to be more creative about how to make the more affordable item work. I was definitely able to prove to myself that a small budget does not mean that you have to sacrifice on design.
