Checkerboard floorsare one of the most versatile flooring options. They are timeless, and work in a variety of design aesthetics ranging from mid-century and modern to traditional and farmhouse. Whileblack and whitecheckerboard is perhaps the most iconic checkerboard look, many designers are opting into infusing a little life into the traditionally neutral pattern by using color. And this week, actressGwyneth Paltrowshared a social media snap of her entryway, making a great case for white and green checkerboard tiles.

“Office bound! #glabel,” she captioneda photo taken from the foyer of her home. In the image, theGoopfounder rocked a boldly patterned frock with chunky black boots, which turns out to be the perfect outfit to complement her green and white marble checkerboard tiled floor. And it’s hard not to love the contrast between the green and her dark-hued door, which adds another classic but bold touch.

While checkerboard floors are a no-brainer for the kitchen, Gwyneth’s entryway is a prime example of how they can be used in other areas of the home. It is also a reminder that opting for a color other than black can soften up the look and is an easy way to personalize your space.

The great thing about checkered floors isyou can get the look for the price of a few cans of paint, a ruler, painter’s tape, and a few paint brushes — a great option for anyone on a strict budget who wants to infuse an attention-grabbing flooring look.
