Originally from Northern Ireland, Suzanne andOliver Jeffershave called Brooklyn home for ten years. Before moving to their current rental, they were living in a tiny, one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn Heights. The apartment fit their needs just fine…until they found out their family would be expanding.

You most likely know Oliver from his whimsical books, includingHow to Catch a Star, The Day the Crayons Quit, and his newest book,Here We Are. Oliver’s beautiful paintings can be seen around their home, along with friends’ artwork they have collected over the years.

How the couple came to occupy this stunning home involves a little luck: Some friends of Suzanne and Oliver’s owned a two-unit building in Park Slope and were planning on renovating the apartments…and renting one out. Oliver and Suzanne jumped at the opportunity, and since the owners were such good friends, they were able to heavily collaborate during the design process, giving input on what they would prefer for colors, tiles, etc.

But the customization didn’t end once they moved in; Oliver and his dad built a beautiful shelving unit that connects to wraparound banquette seating in the kitchen. Given their involved renovation and Oliver’s artistic talent, it is no surprise that Oliver and Suzanne’s home is full of character, warmth, and charm.

An added bonus is having their dear friends living in the apartment right next door.
