So we’re all-in with the kitchen update, and I’m excited to say that I think we’re almost there! I didn’t know if it was going to be doable with two little ones underfoot, but thanks to a lot of help from both sets of grandparents in both the babysitting and manpower departments, I think we may just finish on time. Here’s a run-down of what we’ve accomplished so far:

After getting all of your suggestions on the paint color for the lower cabinets, we narrowed it down to the muted blue-green family. We knew that we wanted something that wasn’t super-saturated, so we looked for colors that had a lot of gray in them.

After staring at paint chips and debating their merits for a ridiculously unnatural amount of time, we narrowed it down to our top three contenders, shipped the kids off to Grandma’s houses, sanded and primed the lower cabinets, and tested each:

We chose the color on the top right, Behr Smokey Slate. I am kind of obsessed with it. It reminds me of the patina that copper gets over time, and looks different depending on the light — sometimes more blue, other times more green, and sometimes more gray.

This past weekend the kids paid another visit to their Nonny and Poppy (thank you, thank you, thank you!), and my father-in-law (AKA Opa) came over to help my husband out with removing the counter and sink, installing our wood plank backsplash, and prepping to install the new butcher block counters and farmhouse sink. While they did the heavy lifting, I worked on painting the cabinet doors. Over the next week, we plan to caulk and paint the backsplash, install the sink and counters, and finish painting the cabinet doors.

I am sooo excited to see the end result – I think it looks a hundred times better already! A big thank you to the Style Cure for giving us the motivation to finally finish this project – it’s going to be so worth it!
