Name:Tracy Bunkoczy
Location:Koreatown — Los Angeles, California
Size:1,170 square feet
Years lived in:1 year, owned

A massive leak in her last home—a beautiful Silver Lake rental apartment——迫使设计执行长Tracy Bunkoczy移动year ago. She had to find a new place to live in a hurry, so when she found this gem—a condo in a gorgeous refurbished French Normandy style building in Koreatown—she decided go all in and buy rather than commit to a new lease. It’s a move that meant she had to decorate her new home without spending a ton of money. “If I had unlimited resources I would definitely make some different choices, but I had to create this environment on a budget,” Tracy explains.

Thankfully, working with a limited decor budget is well within Tracy’s wheelhouse.”I think with good taste you can achieve an inviting home by mixing vintage as well as pieces from mass retailers.” Among her vintage wares are her most valued possessions, like a vintage settee, old family photos, and her grandfather’s architectural sketch from 1939. Those personal items mix elegantly with items and decor inspired by the city of Los Angeles, a big influence in her home’s style. “We have access to so much good stuff here I am always inspired,” Tracy confesses. “I wish I had a storage facility because I would have it filled up!”

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Inspiration:I am attracted to beautiful things that move me; I collected pieces throughout the years. I did not have a “plan”per se; I just went with things I loved.

Favorite Element:The architecture, crown molding, parquet floors, layout, outside, inside, I love everything about my home!

Biggest Challenge:Back patio; it is not where I want it to be yet.

What Friends Say:“It looks like a place you see in the movies.”

Biggest Embarrassment:It’s a tie between the back patio and the landscaping. If I had the choice I’d really highlight the French architecture with topiaries and lots of greenery. This place is so special it deserves to also have beauty on the outside as well.

Proudest DIY:I have to give the credit to the previous owner; she put in the French doors in the dining area, painted the dark wainscoting, put in the kitchen floor and replaced the sink in the bathroom. I was lucky enough to be able to buy this beautiful home from her.

Biggest Indulgence:Buying was the biggest indulgence, but so worth every penny.

Best Advice:Go with your gut.

Dream Sources:Shopping in Europe, especially the Nordic regions, Belgium, France and Portugal.
