These Stylish Prefab Homes Start at 388 Square Feet and $86,000
More major moves are being made in the modular home industry: Modernist companyKitHAUS recently debuted a new line ofprefab homes. Known for its lightweight, energy-efficient structures that take only a matter of days for construction, the company just launched its largest k-series of prefab homes.
Comprised of thek7, k8 and k9, the line features the company’s signature aluminum structure that requires no paint and is resistant to rot, dust, mold and termites. The pre-cut components are marked and drilled on site in the California factory, which contributes to the easy construction process.

The exterior is either corrugated galvalume or smooth natural cement board with a corrugated roof. The interior walls are white shiplap horizontal siding or birch plywood with aluminum dividers. The bathrooms include frosted sliding glass doors and waterproof cement board-clad interior surfaces, including the floors, walls and shower stalls. The designs also include customized options that allow customers to add bathrooms and kitchens as well as additional finishes and upgrades.
Remaining dedicated to its green approach to design, KitHAUS has also enhanced its energy efficient systems.
“One of our focuses is to make our products as environmentally sustainable as possible,” environmental designer and KitHAUS co-founder Tom Sandonatotells Dwell. “We understand that as of 2020 many cities, including L.A., will require ADU construction to be net zero. We have beefed up our SIP panel insulation, and our units include LED fixtures and the most efficient kitchen and bath fixtures.”
The number of each k series model corresponds with the number of panels (available in either 4’ x 8’ or 4’ x 10’) required to construct the homes, which also come with the option to expand and create custom-sized modules. The new models range from 388 square feet up to 491 square feet and start at $86,000.
