No morning routines are the same. For some, it’s waking up 30 minutes before heading out the door, grabbing caffeine on the way in, and breaking into the first hour of work slowly but surely. For others, it’s waking up at 5:30 a.m. and hitting the gym, making time to sip on coffee, reading, and getting ahead of work before stepping foot in the office.

And in the case of actress, producer, and entrepreneurReese Witherspoon, she is definitely the latter—with an alarm clock being her 5-year-old son, Tennessee James Toth. But after giving her preschooler milk (at the exact room temperature and mug he prefers), Reese uses her morning time to set herself up for a day of success. And atCrate & Barrel‘s event in NYC on Sunday, she gave an inside look at what the start of her day looks like.

“I read a couple of email newsletters because it’s food for thought for my brain, and I enjoy having constructive conversation with people at my company,” Witherspoon said. “I want to be able to talk about all kinds of things, because I like to have meaningful conversations with people.”

This is something that manyhealth-minded and successful early birdsmention they do, among other activities like meditating, simple stretching, and cuddling with pets.

另一件事,威瑟斯彭试图腾出时间for before heading to work? A good, old-fashioned sweat sesh. “I try to squeeze in exercise because it changes my brain, and I’m a nicer person when I exercise,” she said. “I figured out you can run basically everywhere as long as you have a pair of sneakers, a GPS.”

And that’s what it might take with her schedule that she calls “erratic,” sometimes getting into work as early as 4 a.m. and leaving as late as 3 a.m. And while she might not be able to workout every single day, she tries her best to get her daily dose of physical activity in.

Exercise is another morning ritual that is proven toincrease productivity throughout the day. According toa study from the University of Bristol, those who make time to exercise during the working week performed better than those who didn’t because it boosted their mood. (Spot on, Reese!)

While getting up early is definitely not for everyone, she has definitely given us a few reasons togive it a shot.
