With a love of the arts and a strong sense of style, Ross went about turning a bare studio apartment into a one bedroom home with charm to spare. To keep the space from feeling cluttered, he stuck mainly to a black and white palette and focused his energy on the areas of the home that he uses most often, keeping his decor well edited while still allowing for bold statement pieces.
The fact that his previous home was a larger one bedroom meant Ross had to make some adjustments. Living in a smaller space was not a problem, but living in a home with no defined living areas was. After adding walls to create a bedroom and small hall, he began working on the layout of his furniture to maximize the area that he wanted to get the most use out of: the living room. Using a carpet to help visually establish the space, he added an L shaped sofa and additional seating to make the sitting area conversation friendly. A pouf in gold off to the side adds a bit of shine, as well as an extra place to sit if needed.

Inspiration:I’m inspired by different hotels I go to, either for a drink or to stay. When a hotel is done right; you feel at home the minute you walk into the lobby. Some that I love are The Crosby in NYC, the Little Nell in Aspen, the Haymarket Hotel in London, and the Greenwich Hotel in NYC.
Favorite Element:The chandelier above my dining table. It makes me so happy when I walk in the door. I always need a little glitz in my life.
Biggest Challenge:Changing the place from an alcove studio to a one bedroom.
What Friends Say:They feel comfortable when they walk in, which is what I wanted. Some say it’s eclectic, and some say it’s tasteful, everyone says it’s beautiful.
Biggest Embarrassment:I forgot to measure how wide my table was before having the chandelier installed… so when everyone sits around the table, I have to move it away from the wall. Always measure!
Proudest DIY:I hung all of the pictures on my own!
Biggest Indulgence:Trove Wallpaper. My friend Mindy Caplow, who’s a designer in LA, recommended it. At first I didn’t think it would work, and then I couldn’t get it out of my mind!
Best Advice:My grandma always told me to start with your basic pieces of furniture, and then find reasons to add more. In a small space, there shouldn’t be anything that’s un-useable.
