Sherwin-Williams—Poised Taupe

If you’re tired of gray’s near domination of neutrals for the past five years, then you’ll be pleased to see that Sherwin-Williams has gone with a hue that mixes it up. “Poised Taupecelebrates everything people love about cool gray as a neutral, and also brings in the warmth of brown, taking a color to an entirely new level. Not cool or warm, nor gray or brown, Poised Taupe is a weathered, woodsy neutral bringing a sense of coziness and harmony that people are seeking,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing.

Poised Taupe also has an uncanny resemblance toEssie’s Chinchilly, our go-to mani hue for the early part of the decade. What goes around, comes around.

Glidden—Byzantine Blue

Glidden is keeping it calm and cool for 2017 withByzantine Blue—a serene gray violet blue. “It stretches the boundaries of purple to borrow all of best qualities of blue and gray, making it an appealing color choice for nearly any room,” says Misty Yeomans, PPG color marketing manager,Gliddenpaint. Paired with dark neutrals, it feels more gray, and with whites, more blue-purple.

A soft violet,Cloudberryis the 2017 pick from Olympic. The hue is meant to create a space for solace from the bustle of the day to day grind. “Home décor trends for 2017 are reflecting society’s urge to find a space apart from constant connectedness, and to create balance by establishing our homes as places to refresh,” said Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager,OlympicPaints & Stains brand. “Cloudberry conveys retreat from the pressures of daily life, encouraging meditation and mindfulness, inspiring more focus and less stress.”

From light to dark,Benjamin Moore’s Shadowis a rich, royal amethyst that is a “master of ambiance,” according to Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Creative Director. “It is a color that calls to mind a ‘past’, yet it can also make a contemporary, color-confident statement.”

This isn’t the first time the popular paint brand has gone with a color in the purple family; 2011’sVintage Winewas a lighter, redder version of the royal hue.

The warmer-hued metals have been all the rage lately, and copper is no exception. “Copper is such a dynamic color that it really gives both designers and DIYers such versatility, both when it comes to creating statement focal pieces in the home or interesting accent items for an office or shelf space. The possibilities really are endless,” said Rachel Skafidas, Color Marketing & Design Expert for Sherwin-Williams Diversified Brands Division.

Valspar—Crushed Oregano

Valspar went with a botanical yellow-green as part of their12-color palettethat brings another layer of nature indoors. We’ve been lowkey obsessed with decorating with plants for the past few years, and this leafy hue confirms that they’re not going anywhere.

Farrow & Ball—Peignoir

This dusty pink is one ofFarrow & Ball’s nine new colors, and we’re really digging it. We’ve seen a trend ofblush as the it neutral, and there’s no signs of that stopping anytime soon. This muted shade definitely “has the ability to feel traditional and modern at the same time.”

Behr—Wanderlust

Travel-ready Wanderlust is part ofBehr’s 20-hue trend report for 2017. The colors are divided into three palettes—Comfortable, Composed, and Confident. We chose Wanderlust from the Composed palette because it recalls far-off destinations as well as deep and calming waters, and we want to drink it all in.

HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams—Useful Gray

Not quite gray and not quite taupe, this neutral plays to both sides. It’s almost a clay hue, and that makes it a perfect fit in HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams’20-color collection, Natural Wonder, which is full of shades you’ll see right outside your window that you’ll want to bring inside.
