The time had come. My four-year-old was ready for a big girl bed that she could grow into, and my ten-year-old was ready to replace their own well-worn loft bed mattress with something cozier. So, I did what I usually do: I spent countless hours online reading every round-up and review I could get my eyes on.

When I emerged from the haze of memory foam vs. innerspring, OEKO-TEX and CertiPUR-US certifications, I had a much more in-depth picture of children’s mattresses than I ever thought possible. I learned that kids at different ages require different levels of support — more firmness for younger kids and a little less for tweens and beyond.

In my research forhow to choose the best mattress for kids, I came across manymanyoptions — here are the kids’ twin mattress options that really stood out, and what I ended up choosing for my own children.

1/10
Helix Sleep
$599.00
was $748.00

After a million hours of research, I likedthe Helix Kids mattressenough to buy one for my four-year-old, and here’s why: The mattress is designed to be flipped — firm on one side for younger kids who need more support, and softer on the other side for older kids who want more comfort, meaning my daughter can literally grow up with this mattress. The mattress also has a ton of certifications that ensure it’s made with high-quality, naturally hypoallergenic materials. The 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty sealed the deal for us.
