Name:Antoni Yranzo
Location:Poble Nou, Barcelona
Size:1076 square feet
Years lived in:Owned

SculptorAntoni Yranzocreates art out of wood. His sculptures are simultaneously futuristic and retro feeling, lovely to look at. As a creative person, he needs a beautiful, unique place where he can work on his art pieces. He’s the owner ofCasamitjana 15, “a studio-workshop that invites creativity, design, art and culture.” It’s a place where events, meetings, film shoots, presentations and other endeavors related to art and creativity regularly happen, all in the presence of Antoni’s inspiring work.

Antoni’s creative haven is in an amazing structure located in the super cool Poble Nou neighborhood in Barcelona. It’s an area where industrial architecture transforms into amazing lofts for cool homes, studios and more. As Antoni mentions in his survey below, part of the challenge of designing this space was combining his personality with the already beautiful architecture.

Casamitjana 17 is a loft space with a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, loft and terrace that’s also ideal for meetings and events and staying over, as well. Though Antoni doesn’t live here full-time, he certainly spends a lot of his time here, and he’s created a warm, welcoming space that’s rich in creativity.

Antoni paid special attention to every little detail of this space. He wanted something neutral and relaxing, but with a lot of style, too. As a creator, all the art and nearly all the furniture was made or designed by him. It’s a space full of creativity, life and a lot of possibilities.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style:Sober-minded with an industrial touch and a pinch of Mediterranean feeling.

Inspiration:It’s the day-to-day, the history of my work through time…I always try to be up-to-date on the new trends in art, architecture and design.

Favorite Element:Several of my older art pieces…I have a special affection for them. They’ve traveled with me to other places I’ve lived, so they’re like a part of the family.

Biggest Challenge:Not to take away the personality of the architecture. The furniture, art pieces, etc are only a a companion for the structure and the history of the house.

What Friends Say:They love the calm and relax feeling that it transmits.

Proudest DIY:The structure and design of the loft. I didn’t want something heavy, but I also wanted to give the loft personality and leadership to the place. It was made with anchors and a perimetral system. It was quite a challenge!

Biggest Indulgence:Having a calm place to create but also a nice space for being with friends or family.

Best Advice:Not to hurry with any project! You have to take your time to develop it. Living it, feeling the place, take your time to know the structure and what the house needs. Time and use are the best advice…

Dream Sources:None in particular. I like to create things by myself.

Resources:

All the furniture, art pieces and structure were designed and/or made by him.

Thanks, Antoni!
